   Contrary to popular belief, occupations are not a new thing. In fact, Black and Brown communites have been in the foreground of taking shit over since the civil war. Here are the highlights.
   
   
   
   
   Fort Monroe- Fort Monroe was a Union garrison…

   so i’ve seen fort monroe almost three times a month for the past four years and i had no idea of its history. in contemporary life, there’s a debate about it being a historical landmark/park, and in all the newspaper articles about it i have not heard one mention of this

   ugh histories of POC being erased/ignored like this is not a mistake

   The museum at Fort Monroe does a horrific job of telling this as well. When I went they had one very small exhibit about the African American people who lived there and the contraband decision. Most of it is creepy wax figures of Edgar Allen Poe and the cell where Jefferson Davis was held. 

   Way not cool.
